November 2011 As The Page Turns

It is time to be thinking of trees and wreaths for the 10th Annual McFadden Tree Forest. In the past 10 years over 200 items have been displayed in the library over the holiday season.  The library is welcoming anyone who wants to display a tree or wreath to contact us so we can reserve a space for you.  All entries must be in place by December 1st.  Voting this year will be one canned good per vote.  All of the canned goods will go to the Osborne Food Pantry.  If you don’t participate by bringing in a tree or wreath, please take the time to come and vote between Dec. 1st and 22nd.  The tree and wreath with the most canned goods is the overall winner.  A panel of judges will select a tree and a wreath in the categories of Most Creative and Best Representation of Business or Organization.

Mr. Thompson has brought in the art for the Student Artist of the Month from the Osborne Jr/Sr High School.  There is a three way tie for the Jr High artist of the month.  The chosen artists are 7th graders Anna Peterson, Autumn Liedtke, and Quentin Morris.  The High School artist of the month is Senior Seth Conway.  Each of these students has a drawing on display at the library for the month of November.

The library will be closed on November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day.  Our display case is featuring memorabilia from different wars.  Neil McDaneld is sharing some things that he carried with him during WWII.   Bryan Byrd has added a few of his keepsakes from the Korean War. Doran Schurr is sharing medals and uniforms that were his father’s, Dick Schurr, from the Vietnam War.  We also have some hats and ration books from the Osborne County Museum.  There is also a scrapbook of Chester Koops’ from WWII.

The library will also be closed on November 24th for Thanksgiving but open on the Friday after Thanksgiving for business as usual.
