Genealogical Services

Digital copies of the library's newspapers can be viewed at http://osborne.advantage-preservation.com/

The library is happy to announce that some of our microfilm has been digitized.  You can view the first of these papers online at:   http://osborne.advantage-preservation.com/ (copy and paste this link in your browser address line)
The staff is busy learning their way around the website also.   There are approximately 30 more reels of microfilm that need to be sent in.  The cost to convert a roll of film is $75.00.  If you would like to donate to this project or want to learn more about this project contact the library at osbor1lb@ruraltel.net or call 785-346-5486

With permission from the Osborne County Genealogical Society the library currently is the home for the VanGundy Files. These files were handwritten by Bliss VanGundy and they have the names, birthdates, and death dates of Osborne County residents going back to the late 1800's. This is a valuable resource for people tracing their family trees.

The following link is a spreadsheet of the Obituary listings that we have in the library.  This link lists the person, date of birth, date of death and the newspaper that it was reported in if we know it.

The library staff will look up basic genealogy requests as time permits.  The library charges $10.00 for these searches.  Once payment is received at the library, the staff will look up and send the asking party the information that has been requested.  If the search contains many family names or it takes more than two hours to find the information there may be additional charges.  Please feel free to contact us at 785-346-5486 if you have any questions regarding your search.

Thank you so much for providing this information! So wonderful to find articles about my ancestors in Osborne County. If I wanted to look up a family name in the Bliss VanGundy files, do I need to submit a request since I live out of state, or are those digitized as well? Thank you for your excellent work.

Steph, If you want more detailed information from the family names you would need to submit a request. All we have is the spreadsheet link in Google Docs with the name, DOB, DOD and what paper to look it up in.

I hope this answers your question. If not, feel free to call us at 785-346-5486 of email us at osbor1lb@ruraltel.net
